Gory Goodness: Bates Motel

Today were going to talk about Bates Motel, nope not the exciting new show for 2013, but the 1987 show that never really made an impact. It was actually a TV movie that was made to be a pilot for a TV series, but it never got picked up.
The idea behind Bates Motel is actually really cool. Our main character is a guy called Alex West. Alex West spent most of his life in a mental institution after he killed his father who abused him. While in the mental institution Alex strikes up a friendship with Norman Bates. Yes that is right THE Norman Bates.
Anyway these two strike up quite the friendship lasting around 20 years. When Norman Bates dies inside the mental institution it is revealed that he still owned the Bates Motel and that he has left it to his friend Alex in his will. Alex decides that he will re-open the Bates Motel and try and make the best of it, but things start to go very weird and truth be told you never really know what the hell is going on.
I think that the Bates Motel did have quite the potential to be a great little series, but sadly it was never picked up. Many people over the years have said that the show makes no sense in terms to the Psycho cannon
This is not anything that is going to blow your mind, but if you are excited for all things to do with Psycho because of the new Bates Motel show then this is certainly worth checking out.

I have to admit this show sounded pretty good. It would have been interesting if it had gotten the green light and actually given a chance. I’m feeling pretty optimistic about the new series coming out and all I ask is that it creeps the hell out of me at least once. It’s also pretty amazing how shows like the Walking Dead and American Horror Story have kicked off all these scary themed shows.
