Ok for today’s Gory Goodness instead of talking about a specific movie I want to address something that I just released recently. The other evening I was watching The Woman In Black not the scariest movie I know.
For those of you who are unaware of this movie it is a British horror movie starring Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame) Who if I am honest did a pretty damn good job. Any way I was watching the movie and within about half a hour I knew that the ending would not be a happy one.
And this got me thinking the last few British horror movies I have watched all end with the big bad monster, evil , killer or whatever winning. And it has gotten to the point where I would be more surprised if the bad thing was defeated and people lived happily ever after.
I know that in horror you cannot always have a happy ending and I am cool with that. But it got me thinking as to what kind of ending I prefer.
Do I like it when I think out good guys are safe and then BAM they get it right before the credits role? Or do I like it when then is a real resolution and the good guys overcome whatever bad thing was in there way?
The truth is I love both, but it seems like the bad guy wins seems to be the way many horror movies are going these days. Sometimes it is a great shock when a monster or whatever wins, but for the most part that surprise is gone. Well to me at least it is as I am expecting it with the majority of movies I see these days, but sometimes a movie can still surprise me with a twist ending Insidious springs to mind.
Any way I would love for you guys who take the time to read my Gory Goodness stories to chip in and tell me what kind of ending you like to a horror movie. Do you like the characters to be jumping around with there hands in the air after defeating the evil? Or do you want to see the evil jumping around with the heads of the good guys in his hands?
