You can tell that the conservative Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key is a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, since due to these movies New Zealand’s tourism has been doing extremely well. New Zealand Tourism Board as found out that thirteen percent of tourists that come from overseas take part in a Middle-Earth experience, where they go visit the places where the movies were filmed; from the snow tipped mountains to the beautiful green shire.
It was only last week that The Hobbit officially finished filming in New Zealand, the final installment to The Hobbit will be releasing in December of 2014; so this gives time for New Zealand to take advantage of tourism as of now.
John Key though now has changed his thoughts and has decided to drill for oil and gas to increase their economy, though with this won’t it end up changing or damaging the beautiful environment that is New Zealand? I don’t think it’s worth it, everyone around the world know New Zealand to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth, by looking at the scenery alone would make anyone fall in love with it.
Key’s decision has ‘caused protesting of people , and I can see why they are; New Zealand doesn’t need to worry about that as of now, the one tourism boss of New Zealand mentioned how The Lord of the Rings was the best unpaid advertisement the country ever got and it’s true.
As of now focus on keeping your place beautiful and making for people who are looking for the sights of beautiful scenery or who simply want to visit Middle-Earth, I wouldn’t want to see it all go away due to something like oil and gas drilling.
