Gory Goodness: Dark Skies

If any movie poster I see has anything to do with the guys who made Insidious then you bet your butt I am into it. Dark Skies not only had that going for it, but it was also about alien abduction. I am a lover of all things extraterrestrials I love when movies do it in a more low key realistic way than a full on invasion. I and the whole alien abduction thing is just something I find really unnerving.

At the heart of the movie is the Barrett family which is comprised of dad Daniel, mother Lacey, sons Sam and Jesse with Jesse being I think somewhere between 12-14 and Sam being I would say around 5-7. They are pretty much your average family. They are having some financial troubles as Daniel recently got laid off from his job, but apart from that hey appear to be normal in pretty much every way you could imagine.

Until the weird stuff starts happening. At first it’s kind of small things like the stuff in there kitchen being rearranged. This is pretty freaky as it has been arranged in a way so that it makes what looks like a crop circle appear on the kitchen ceiling when the lights are turned off. Also all of the families photos go missing. At first the Daniel & Lacey think that someone has broken into their house or that perhaps one of the kids did it. And when they call the cops they tell them that it probably was the kids. The craziest thing that happens to the house is when it is hit by birds. Tons of birds just fly into the house.

They have an alarm system which keeps going off despite on one seemingly triggering the alarms. The youngest kid Sam says that he speaks to a person called The Sandman who tells him things. Of course this freaks out the parents. One night Lacey is walking around the house and she can hear Sam talking in his bedroom. She assumes that he is just talking to his brother through there walkie talkies which we see them doing many times during the movie. She heads into the room to tell him to go to sleep when she sees a shadowy figure standing over his bed. This made me jump and as I write this it sends a chill down my spine. She puts on the lights and Sam is now missing. He somehow appears outside the house with no recollection of how he got there And of course no one including Daniel believes that Lacey saw someone in Sam’s room.

Daniel sets up video cameras in all eth rooms, but there is around an hour of time where the video is distorted and it jumps forward. Lacey at her wits end types what is happening to them in the internet and she comes across all these stories about alien abductions. Many of the things she is seeing are what is happening t her and her family. And most terrifying of all is a picture that Sam drew of himself with The Sandman. The reason this picture is so scary is because another little boy many miles away drew the exact same picture.

Daniel does not at first believe her, but he does come around and they decide that they should speak to a specialist. They find a guy called Edwin (JK Simmons) who it turns out has been watched and abducted by aliens for years. He tells them that their goal is always to take someone. And in some rare circumstances families have fought back and the aliens have left them alone. He tells them that the one to be taken is the one the aliens first made contact with. Of course they think this is Sam after all he is the one who the aliens have been speaking to since this all started.

They head back home board up the house and wait for the aliens to show up. Pollard tells them that they must stick together if they are to stand any chance in making the aliens leave them alone.

I won’t spoil the ending for you guys. But I freaking loved this movie. There is pretty much zero gore in this movie, but it certainly did send shivers down my spine. Alien abduction is a subject matter that always gets under my skin and this movie certainly did that.

Spider-Man Video Game Retrospective Part 41

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions on Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS from 2010. I was giddy like a school girl for this game before it was released. The promo videos and all the features that I had seen in various different video game magazines just got me more and more pumped up for it

The idea behind Shattered Dimensions is really cool. Spidey and Mysterio are fighting it out and this thing called the Tablet Of Order & Chaos is broken into pieces. This does not just mess things up here, but in different dimensions as well. Madame Web comes to the conclusions that he only way to fix things is for four different Spidey’s from different dimensions to get the pieces of the tablet.

The game is split into four different universes. The Amazing Spider-Man universe sees Spider-Man go up against villains such as Kraven, Electro and Sandman as well as some others. This universe plays more like a traditional Spider-Man game. Amazing Spidey is great at hand to hand combat. While this is the most basic Spidey out of the four he was my favourite one to play as.

Next up we have Spider-Man Noir which was the one that received the most attention during the games development. This is really cool and it plays like a stealth game and I love the art design in this section of the game here you will face many villains including Hammerhead and Vulture. While I loved the way this section of the game looked. I must say that this was probably my least favourite portion of the game. Mainly because I am not very good at anything involving stealth.

There is a Spider-Man 2099 which is a Spider-Man from a potential future. This guys is pretty cool he is much more athletic than the others and his suit has some enhancements such as claws that come in really handy. Scorpion and an awesome Doc Ock are a couple of the villains you will see in this universe.

The last one we have is Ultimate Spider-Man this Spidey is in his black suit and he can use the powers of the symbiote to cause some real damage. This here plays kind of like Spider-Man 3 when you are wearing the black suit. This universe had the coolest villains while it only had three it did have Carnage and Deadpool.

I really think that this game should have scored mugs higher than it did. I don’t know if people were maybe a little tired of Spider-Man games, but I had so much fun with this game. It actually is a game I have played through a few times on different consoles. The overall game play may not be anything brand new. But I think the different Spidey’s do more than enough to shake things up a bit. If you are one of the people who blew this off as just another Spider-Man game then you really owe it to yourself to track it down.

TV Timeless Tales: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

1997-2003 **Major Spoilers Ahead** Back again with another one of my favorite TV shows of all time. This week we are going to look at Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Created by Joss Whedon and originally starting life as a movie. Buffy The Vampire Slayer would go on to hook audiences for seven season on TV and still to this day in other forms of media. Many people say that the series is very clever because instead of the monsters chasing the hot blonde girl it is reversed as it is the monsters running from the hot blonde girl. While that it is true there is far more to this series than just that.

The series revolves around Buffy (Sarah Michelle Geller) Who goes to Sunnydale High School, which just so happens to be where a hell mouth is located so because of this all kinds of monsters are drawn to this place. Well Buffy just so happens to be the latest in a long line of vampire slayers and with her watcher Giles ( Anthony Stewart Head) they prepare for whatever evil monsters come their way. That is the basic idea of what the series is about, but there is just so much more going.

What I loved about the series was the cast of characters Buffy had some great friends such as Willow (Alyson Hannigan) Xander (Nicholas Brendan) Cordillia ( Charisma Carpenter) Tara ( Amber Benson and she also had a younger sister Dawn ( Michele Trachtenberg) As well as these guys she had numerous love interests most notably Angel (David Boreanez) Spike (James Marsters) and Riley ( Marc Blucas) the twist being the first two are actually vampires. There was of course far more characters than this that would drop in and out of the series as it progressed. A couple of my favorites being Faith ( Eliza Dushku)and Oz (Seth Green)

There was great action, some really cool special effects, but this to me was a show that was more about the characters than anything else. While I consider the X-Files my all time favorite TV show. I do not think I have cared about a cast of characters as much as I did with the ones in this show. It was just so well written and acted. I really do not think there was a single character that I hated. Even the bad guys were cool in this show.

If I had to pick a favorite season of Buffy The Vampire Slayer then it would actually really not be that difficult. Season 5 would be my choice each and every time. We not only had the introduction of Dawn who is the sister of Buffy, but we also had a fantastic story arc involving the evil vampire Spike and how because of a chip in his head could not hurt people, but after some time he actually did start to do some good because he wanted to. And of course major spoiler here who can forget when Buffy sacrificed herself to save Dawn. Honestly my jaw hit the floor when that happened. When Buffy leaped to her death.

I kind of have a funny story about that. You see I was there in silence having seen Buffy just make the ultimate sacrifice. Then a minute later during the end credits a voice over tells us not to worry because Buffy would be back later that year when Season 6 started. Man talk about taking you out of a moment.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer I think is one of the greatest TV shows in history and I was really gutted when it ended. I think that it could easily gone on for a few more years. And thanks to the amazing Buffy Season 8 comic books we do get to see what life was like for Buffy and her friends once the series ended.

Do not just pass this off as some show for teenagers from the 90′s it is far more than that. Like I Said while it does have hot chicks, good looking guys and awesome monsters this is a show that is all about the characters.

Star Wars: Rebels Animated Series Will Exhibit An Untouched Period Of Time

An announcement was made today that we’ll be getting a new animated series called Star Wars Rebels, the series will focus on the events that took place between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.

It’s going to be showing us things we’ve always wanted to see and answer a lot of questions fans of the franchise have. One of the greatest one is who the last of the Jedi were after Order 66, because we all know that there has been speculations on whether or not certain Jedi’s died a good example would be Kit-Fisto.

Star Wars Rebels actually sounds very interesting and I can’t wait to see how it looks, I never got into the Clone Wars animated series because I was a fan of the animation style it was given; I’m hoping that we’ll see something more interesting and appealing to the eyes. I’m not saying that Clone Wars was a bad show; I’ve heard many great things about it.

Angry Birds Takes Flight By Sharing With The Simpsons

Today Rovio Entertainment announced that a man by the name of Jon Vitti will be working on the script of the upcoming 3D animated movie adaptation of Angry Birds.

Now I know there’s a couple of you out there wondering who’s Jon Vitti, he’s well known for writing several episodes for The Simpsons; other work he’s done is King of the Hill, Saturday Night Live and more.

There’s only thing about this movie that I don’t get and that is, why is Rovio Entertainment even making an Angry Birds movie? I don’t see the point in it at all. Lately Angry Birds has getting less popular and I wonder will anyone know or remember what Angry Birds is in the year 2016? It just seems like it’s something not needed at all, I guess the company wants to milk the franchise before it’s all gone, so I can understand why’d they would make the movie.

I’m wondering on how they’ll make a movie of birds and green pigs fighting against each other, it’ll be interesting to see how this goes. As of now it’s either going to flop or be an okay movie. Angry Birds the movie is set to release on the 1^st of July of 2016.
